Enhanced Cow Page in Production
The new cow page has now been out for about a month. You will note the color production graphs for each lactation and Inbreeding Coefficients on the cow, sire, dam, maternal and paternal grand sire. The data collection rating is coming soon from USDA. Barn Name of the calf is also being printed in the calving section, as it was provided on our old cow page a few years ago. To enroll in the cow page option, please visit with your Field Rep on sample day. Cost is just one cent per cow.
What’s the Inbreeding Coefficient?
The inbreeding coefficient is a measure of relatedness between ancestors. Inbreeding coefficients greater than 6.25 tend to result in some loss of productivity as measured by greater death losses, losses early in life, reproductive problems, slower growth rate and smaller mature size.
Attention: Scout Users
If you are interested in a little help on farm with your Scout program, your Field Rep has recently learned some of the key features in changing the vet list and other reports. If you are interested in making minor changes or want to learn more about recording Johne’s and other Health Events, just ask your Field Rep!
Johne’s Update: National Animal Health Monitoring System 2007 Survey
Minnesota Board of Animal Health estimates that a 100 cow herd
with a 10% level of infection can lose over $20,000
each year because of Johne’s Disease

Ask the Experts SCC questions
How soon after I remove the milker from a cow do I need to dip her?
Of course as soon as possible is best, but for all practical purposes getting the teat dip on within a few minutes after the milking unit has come off and before the cows leaves the parlor or lies down in her stall is fine. Dr. Jeff Reneau, University of Minnesota
