Fast Holiday access to DHIA information

If you have internet access, you can access your reports within seconds of processing being completed.  This will be a nice feature (and its free right now) for weekends and holidays.  You will get a message at logon that says there will be a $2 charge.  That will be covered by MN DHIA, so there will be no charge to you.  This access will save you time and if you choose to access data here instead of by mail, it will save costs to MN DHIA. 

1. Logon to www.DRMS.org

2. Click on LOGIN

3. Enter Herd code and RAC (4 digit Release Code).   Please call 800.827.3442 if you need your RAC.

4. First time only: Sign up for Web Reports

5. Click here to display WebReport (Green bar)

6. View this month’s reports as well as past months (only for months you have processed here)

7. You can download the reports to your computer if you wish to look at them any time during the month.  They will be saved under sample date so next month you will still be able to look at this month’s reports.

If your Field Rep has entered your email address into their computer, you will receive an email telling you when your herd has processed, and providing a link to the logon page on the DRMS website. 

Our goal is to optionally attach reports to an email again after some other projects are completed.  Until the new options screens are programmed, you will continue to receive the paper reports.  To prevent this, have your Field Rep send us a memo with your herd on sample day.

Rules for your data to be included in year-end publications from Minnesota DHIA:

1. Publicity option is Yes (see your herd summary or visit with your Field Rep on sample day)

2. Production is above average with a normal fat protein ratio (insures proper sampling).

3. 11 tests in the last 365 days as of the last processed test (not sample day) of the year

Note that annual percent milk sold will be published, but there are no minimums or maximum values

Herd Management Software ….. Which one is for you?

Scout – Ideal for herds under 250 cows, affordable for the average producer.

Steve Hoffman and his wife Kerry milk 100 cows on their farm south of New Ulm and have been die hard Scout users for 10 years. Steve utilizes the “Open Cow” report to manage his PreSynch/ Ovsynch programs ensuring shots are given in a timely manner and the “Conception Rate by Breeding Code” report to see what methods of breeding cows are having the best success. Steve uses the Vet List religiously for every herd heath. With hired help, he also utilizes the “Conception Rate by Technician” to see how his breeders are doing and if any of them could use a little improvement. Another perk that Steve likes is receiving his test day results quickly into his Scout before the reports come in the mail.

Dairy Comp 305 – Ideal for herds 250 cows and greater. Dairy Comp offers more flexibility to customize the program to meet your herd management needs. Some additional features of Dairy Comp are:

• Interfacing with Daily milk meters and other software.
• Daily task scheduler can be set to automatically print reports when needed.
• Comes with many standard Events and Items, and allows creation of Events and Items specific to the herd owners needs.
• More extensive options to monitor herd performance on parameters such as production, SCC, inventory, reproduction and herd health.
• Manage hospital cows – treatment protocols, treatment status, milk and beef withhold dates.
• Setup other reports such as customized Vaccination or Foot Trim lists.

Dairy Comp is an indispensable tool for Vet checks, Timed AI breeding programs, Hospital lists, and other management and dairy monitoring for United Dairies in central Minnesota. They are currently milking about 4,500 cows but have them on 4 different sites. By using Dairy Comp Server and Client programs, computers on all locations are connected with each other via high speed Internet. So all animals are in a single cowfile and movement from animals from one site to another is simply a pen move. Management reports are run and data is entered on all locations, and the information is constantly "refreshed" between the computers. For example, when a breeding is done on one site, staff at any location can go into the animals' cowcard and see that breeding a few minutes after it has been recorded. United Dairies has recently implemented the use of RFID tags in all animals so that Vet checks and other management operations can be done with the use of handheld PDA's and Bluetooth Wands. Animals in palpation rails are wanded and when an animal that needs action such as PREG check is wanded that message is relayed through a headset to the dairyman. Results are recorded on the PDA and posted into Dairy Comp when done. Speed and accuracy are both increased, and as a side benefit, cows that are in the wrong pen are identified and fixed when they are scanned.
